[/media-credit]Melissa Baumgart and her son, Sebastian, is leaving the Capitol.
Apparently, Owen Loftus has driven off another staffer in the House GOP office.
Deputy Chief of Staff Melissa Baumgart is the latest to turn in her resignation, saying she won’t return for the 2012 legislative session because she wants to spend more time her son Sebastian, who was born July 3.
(Loftus had nothing to do with her leaving but people have been teasing the communications director about what he’s doing that makes people want to leave.)
Baumgart in 2003 started as an intern in the House Majority Communications Office under Speaker Lois Spradley. She’s watched the Republicans lose and gain back the majority and, after working for two minority leaders, now answers to Speaker Frank McNulty, R-Highlands Ranch. Her nickname among Republicans is “The Brake,” because she’s the one who most often worries about a press release or joke as too over the top. She was even nervous about Rep. May making a joke about cougars during a debate over insensitive high school mascots.
Other recent departures from the House GOP office include Michelle Yi, who went to West Virginia to work on a campaign there, and policy director Jared Kosin, who decided he wanted a real paycheck and joined a law firm.
